Lava Flow

Seething as he is breathing laboriously

Spittle forms on the outer edge of his mouth and lips

As the hateful and embittered words flow freely

From within the bowels of his gut and being.

The faucet has been turned on; the handle is broken

As the words just keep freely flowing...

Overflowing and spilling out of his mouth and onto the floor.

He tries to hold back, but its too late to stop the ghastly lava like flow

Once he has finished erupting, he feels remorse, but it is too late

The damage has now been done and the lava has turned to stone.

Bend in Life

A glistening stone upon my hand

Attached to a ring which envelopes my left digit like a warm embrace.

A chosen path, a right of passage …or is it just a finger feeling trapped?

Reminders of my long gone past;

Single days of drunken splendor, swirling, dancing…no surrender.

I come to a fork in the road, a bend in life, a possible midlife crisis.

Should I go back down that inviting, familiar road well traveled?

Or continue forward down this chosen path, the winding road so unfamiliar.

Lights ablaze with offers of security, a soul mate and cherubescent offspring

With added perks of the sweet aroma of fruity shampoo on my toddler’s head;

Smiling faces, silly phrases, snuggly embraces…

Which cannot be traded in for the road well traveled,

They should be cherished, loved and remembered.

I choose to keep on keeping on…

To go down this still unaccustomed road which is really just less traveled.

Maybe with a little more mileage, it will start to become a little more familiar…

And thus more worn, amiable and well traveled.
